Terms of Service
Effective date: April 26, 2026 · Jurisdiction: Ontario, Canada
Acceptance
These Terms govern your use of Sally, a personal-finance and shared-expense app for iPhone. By installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Who I Am
Sally is developed and operated by Song Soon Yang, an independent developer based in Toronto, Canada ("I", "me", or "my"). I am the sole party providing the service.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Sally. By using the app, you represent that you meet this requirement and that your use complies with the laws of your place of residence.
The Service
Sally lets you log expenses by hand, split shared expenses across groups, and — at your option — connect a bank account through Plaid to import transactions automatically. The app is provided free of charge. I may add, modify, or remove features at any time.
Your Account
You can sign in with Apple or by emailing yourself a magic link. You are responsible for keeping access to your sign-in method (your Apple ID, your email account, and your device passcode). You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account; doing so permanently removes your server-side data within 30 days, subject to the deletion mechanics described in Sally's Privacy Policy.
Bank Account Linking (Plaid)
If you choose to connect a bank account, you do so through Plaid Inc., a third-party financial-data network. Plaid receives your bank credentials directly; I never see them. Plaid then issues Sally an access token, which I store encrypted in Supabase's pgsodium vault and use only to fetch your transactions and account metadata for the institutions you have linked.
You can disconnect a linked institution at any time from Settings → Manage Connections. Disconnecting revokes my access at Plaid and deletes the encrypted token. You may additionally revoke Sally's access at any time directly with Plaid at my.plaid.com.
Plaid's collection and use of your data is governed by the Plaid End User Privacy Policy. By linking an account, you accept that policy.
Your Data and Content
You retain ownership of the information you put into Sally — your expenses, groups, settlements, receipts, and notes. You grant me a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, transmit, and display that information solely to provide the service to you and the people you have invited to your groups.
I do not sell your personal information, and I do not use your financial data for advertising. The full data flow is described in the Privacy Policy.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use Sally for any unlawful purpose, including money laundering or facilitating fraud.
- Attempt to access another user's account or data, or to bypass the app's authentication or row-level security.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, rate-limit-evade, or otherwise interfere with the operation of the backend.
- Use the app to harass, defraud, or impersonate another person.
- Submit false or misleading information when linking bank accounts or inviting group members.
Third-Party Services
Sally relies on the following service providers ("subprocessors") to operate:
- Supabase — backend hosting, authentication, database, storage, and edge functions.
- Plaid — bank account linking and transaction retrieval (only when you connect a bank).
- Apple — App Store distribution and Sign-In with Apple.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics. No bank data and no expense content is sent to PostHog.
Each subprocessor handles data under its own privacy policy and security commitments. The current list is reviewed annually; if it changes in a way that affects your data, the Privacy Policy will be updated.
No Financial Advice
Sally is a budgeting and expense-tracking tool. Information shown in the app — including imported transactions, balances, categories, and settlement suggestions — is informational only and is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Always verify your transactions and balances directly with your financial institution.
Service Availability
I run Sally as a small, independent service. The backend depends on Supabase, Plaid, Apple, and other providers. I do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and there may be downtime for maintenance, upstream outages, or unforeseen incidents. The app is designed to function offline using your device's local copy of your data; sync resumes once connectivity is restored.
Termination
You can stop using Sally at any time by deleting the app and, if you wish, deleting your account. I may suspend or terminate access for any user who violates these Terms or whose use poses a security risk to the service or to other users, with or without notice depending on the circumstances. On termination, the data-deletion provisions of the Privacy Policy apply.
Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. I do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that imported transaction data will always be complete or accurate.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, I will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or relating to your use of Sally, even if I have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; in those jurisdictions, my liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted by law.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the courts located in Toronto, Ontario, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your place of residence provides otherwise.
Changes to These Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the app after a revised effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
